Richard Grigonis of VON Magazine interviews Andriy Zhylenko, PortaOne CTO

Richard Grigonis, VON Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief interviewed Andriy Zhylenko, CTO at PortaOne in the August’06 issue of VON Magazine. Andriy shared his views on the future developments of billing solutions for ITSPs:

“We see people talking more and more about event-based billing. There’s not much point in keeping track of minutes, since the cost of telephony keeps going down. Right now everyone’s trying to offer an ‘unlimited package’ or ‘unlimited calls’. It changes the way the billing is supposed to work. We’re moving from a traditional per-minute system to billing the ‘events’ of services which are provided to customers, per month.”

“Voice will be eventually free, more or less,” says Zhylenko. “It’s funny, when I started using the Internet in 1993 in Ukraine, we had email systems where if you wrote a big email you had to pay a few cents per kilobyte to send it! Ten years from now young people will be amazed to hear stories of how we used to pay per minute for connections.”
