Webinar Summary & Highlights

No time to watch the full webinar? Here are the key improvements delivered in MR122–MR125 — and how they help you simplify operations, reduce support load, and launch services faster.

PortaSwitch improvements

24-Hour Mobile Bundles with Activation-Time Expiry

Mike explained that many mobile markets — especially in Africa and Asia — rely on very short mobile bundles (1-day, 3-day, 5-day), where competition is intense and customers expect exact bundle validity. Previously, PortaSwitch bundles always expired at midnight, meaning a “1-day” bundle might only be active for a few hours. With MR122–125, service providers can now choose whether a bundle expires at midnight or exactly 24, 48, or 72 hours after activation. This enables providers to offer competitive short-term bundles aligned with regional market expectations.

High Data Usage Alerts in Expensive Roaming Zones

For travel SIMs and roaming packages, some countries charge extremely high data rates. With MR122–125, providers can set usage thresholds per hour or per day. When the threshold is reached, PortaBilling can notify the subscriber or admins via SMS/email or trigger an External System Provisioning Framework (ESPF) event. An external system can then throttle data, temporarily disable access, or apply a fair-usage policy. This feature helps prevent financial losses for operators when subscribers unknowingly consume large volumes of data in high-cost destinations.

Simplified ESPF Events for Faster SIM Provisioning Development

Previously, SIM-related ESPF events were numerous and difficult for developers to navigate. The new releases introduce four streamlined events – SIM created and assigned, SIM updated, SIM replaced, and SIM deleted — making it much easier and faster for developers to build provisioning handlers for mobile cores (HSS, PCRF, etc.) while reducing complexity and development time.

Voicemail Transcription via Add-on Mart

PortaSwitch has long supported transcription of call recordings through the IBM Whisper module in Add-on Mart, and MR122 now extends this capability to voicemail. Voicemail audio can now be automatically transcribed and shown in the CloudPBX self-care portal or emailed to the user. The feature uses the same Add-on Mart subscription (no additional module required) and can be monetized as a separate PortaBilling service charged per minute of voicemail transcription or bundled into recurring plans.

Call Activity Reports for Cloud PBX Call Centers

Cloud PBX now includes detailed call activity reports, essential for call center supervisors and managers. The reports track key metrics such as average call duration, number of handled calls, time spent on wrap-up, and idle time. These insights help evaluate agent performance and make PortaSwitch-based Cloud PBX more competitive in the call-center segment.

Real-Time Text (RTT) for Accessible Emergency Communication

RTT now transmits each character as it is typed, without requiring the “Send” button. This supports critical accessibility and emergency-services scenarios (e.g., users who cannot speak or must remain silent). RTT helps operators comply with EU accessibility regulations and upcoming next-generation U.S. emergency service requirements.

Multiple Taxes Per Subscription for Complex Tax Environments

MR123 adds flexibility for markets requiring multiple taxes on subscription fees. Providers can now create tax codes that apply different taxes (and percentages of taxes) to specific portions of a subscription fee. PortaBilling also supports scenarios where the second tax is calculated on “subscription fee + first tax,” matching local regulations in several countries.

Redesigned PortaBilling Web Interface for Faster Navigation

Mike showcased the redesigned admin interface, addressing long-standing feedback about multi-click navigation and narrow panels. The new design features a clean single-level menu, full-width pages, tabbed layouts, and card-based organization. Compact top-bar search with expandable advanced filters eliminates unnecessary horizontal scrolling. Customers, Accounts, Resellers, Distributors, Representatives, and Subscriptions pages have already been redesigned, and Products, Bundles, and Tariffs are underway.

AI-Powered Chat Assistant in the Administrator UI

A new AI chat is now available directly in the PortaBilling admin interface. PortaOne preloaded documentation for MR124-125 into a vector-search database (RAG), allowing administrators to ask questions and receive structured answers based on official docs. The assistant supports session memory, follow-up questions, and history browsing. It is included at no extra cost for customers with active PortaCare (fair-usage policy applies).

PortaPhone Application Enhancements

Svitlana presented several updates that make PortaPhone more functional and user friendly:
• Built-in voicemail inbox fully synchronized with PortaSwitch
• New System Notifications tab for provider announcements
• Caller-ID selection for users with multiple numbers or extensions

Web Dialer: Attended Transfer Support

The Web Dialer now supports attended transfer, enabling agents to speak with the receiving party before completing the transfer. This improves call-handling quality and customer experience and is already available in the latest build.

Add-on Mart Updates: NSPS, Invoice Preview, Polycom Auto-Provisioning

Svitlana highlighted two major modules:
NSPS – a cloud-based provisioning system that receives PortaBilling events, enriches data, and pushes updates to external systems (mobile cores, IPTV, CRM), reducing the need for custom middleware or low-code tools.
Invoice preview – enables teams to see a predicted invoice before the billing cycle ends, preventing disputes and improving transparency.

New Polycom models with programmable keys were also added to auto-provisioning.

PortaOne AI Datalink: Pre-Structured Analytics Data for BI and AI Agents

Mike introduced AI Datalink – a tool that extracts PortaBilling data, removes personal data, and uploads analytics-ready datasets into BigQuery. These datasets cover revenue, profitability trends, and customer insights. Operators can connect traditional BI tools or use modern AI agents (ChatGPT, Claude) to get analytics.

Special Offer: Six Months of AI Datalink Free

Customers who subscribe to AI Datalink before year-end receive six months of the service for free, plus a workshop with a PortaOne data analytics expert to identify key metrics and reporting strategies.

What’s Next for PortaOne

Mike outlined several upcoming developments including the integrated Voice AI agent solution (Apifonica), simplified call-forwarding IVR, integration with Bandwidth for U.S. emergency calls, callback to queued callers, extended TLS support for SIP trunks, and more. The team encouraged operators to share new service ideas with Customer Success managers to shape future roadmap items.
