PortaOne Delivers New Features in PortaSwitch Maintenance Release 56

PortaOne announced availability of MR56-0, the newest version of PortaSwitch, communication services delivery platform.

MR56 Highlights

  • Avalara SaaS Taxation
  • Enforcing call limit for calls in progress
  • Call Barring Settings per hosted IP PBX
  • Enhanced Huawei HSS Provisioning
  • ICE support
The most important improvements in the functionality include:

Avalara SaaS Taxation - Since the acquisition of BillSoft by Avalara, a new taxation interface is now available. Avalara SaaS provides a cloud-based web services API that supports all the features of BillSoft EZTax, yet eliminates the need for installing and maintaining the local copy of taxation libraries.

Enforcing call limit for calls in progress - In order to prevent a situation when all available ports on the carrier's PSTN gateway are occupied due to a large number of concurrent call attempts (e.g. call center or auto-dialer), it is now possible to impose a maximum call limit that takes into consideration both connected and in-progress (ringing) calls.

Call Barring Settings per hosted IP PBX - Hosted IP PBX deployments for medium and large enterprises typically require hundreds of individual extensions under a single customer (IP Centrex environment). To simplify the administration it is now possible to define a standard call barring list per customer. This way, an individual extension can either automatically inherit this list, or have its own customized settings.

Enhanced Huawei HSS Provisioning - Two new features have been added to the Huawei provisioning module. It is now possible to assign customers' static IP addresses for LTE services and use provisioning templates to automate the provisioning of additional settings such as QoS.

ICE support - ICE (Interactive Connectivity Establishment) permits end-points (IP phones, mobile apps, etc.) to negotiate their individual network preferences and capabilities so as to enable better NAT traversal. In some cases this means that an RTP media stream can directly connect among end-points, thereby eliminating the need for media proxying on the PortaSwitch side. This reduces the bandwidth that is consumed at the PortaSwitch hosting facility and potentially improves the sound quality too, since the voice media stream now travels the shortest path between end-points.
