PortaOne Delivers New PortaSwitch Features in Maintenance Release 34

PortaOne announced availability of MR34-0, the newest version of PortaSwitch, communication services delivery platform.

MR34 Highlights

  • Caller ID (CNAM) Service
  • Video Conferencing
  • Support for new phones
  • RFC 3327 support
The most important improvements in the functionality include:

CNAM Caller ID Support

CNAM Caller ID Support - this important add-on feature to the IP Centex or residential VoIP service allows a person to see the actual name of the caller and thus decide how to proceed with the call. For service providers this is a new source of revenue (besides the added value to the service), since Caller ID service typically implies charging a monthly recurring fee.

RFC 3327 support

RFC 3327 support - "Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Extension Header Field for Registering Non-Adjacent Contacts" (RFC 3327) is used for situations when there are several intermediary SIP proxies (e.g. SBCs) between the SIP phone and PortaSIP. Support of this SIP header permits the successful deployment of the service in complex network environments (e.g. corporate networks).

Extended tracking of first usage time

Extended tracking of first usage time - the first usage information is now stored as an exact time stamp (including hours and minutes), which permits a better audit of user activity and most importantly, allows for the allocation of extremely short time spans for accounts (e.g. Internet access vouchers valid for 24 hours)

Taxation information for manual transactions

Taxation information for manual transactions - when entering a new transaction (e.g. a manual charge or credit), administrator can select a specific tax type to assign to this transaction, ensuring correct total tax calculations.

Yealink VP530 support

Yealink VP530 support - this phone type is now fully integrated into the auto-provisioning framework of PortaSwitch.

Yealink M7 firmware support

Yealink M7 firmware support - this permits auto-provisioning for Yealink SIP-T20P, SIP-T22P, SIP-T26P and SIP-T28P phones with new (M7) firmware.

Video conferencing

Video conferencing - to answer a demand from enterprise customers for an easy-to-use and affordable solution for real-time collaboration, it is now possible to use the PortaSIP Media server to create a video conference between multiple end-points (such as soft-phones, mobile communication clients or specialized meeting room video equipment). PortaSIP serves as a multiplexer, so each participant can then choose a specific video stream to watch and only that stream is sent to them - this optimizes bandwidth usage. Since entire video streams are switched / duplicated and no actual video content conversion is done - that translates to high performance (a single PortaSIP server can support up to 50 simultaneous video streams) with no additional costs for codec licenses.
