How does SIP-H.323 conversion work with PortaSIP?
Q: There is a SIP–> h323 translation supported in Vocal, will this work with PortaSIP for the purpose described above? Have you tried Net.com ShoutLink (http://www.net.com/products/voice_packet/pdf/shoutlink_ds_0902.pdf)? Will this device work to make PortaSIP h323 compatible? A: No, we have not tested it with PortaSIP so far, but I do not se why it would not work - see below. Q: Are there any other solutions you can provide besides MeraVoip Transit Server (adds too much to the price and not all of its features are needed by us) or a Cisco back-to-back GW (seems like a waste of valuable GW ports)? A: You can use any box (e.g. Asterisk) which is capable of receiving a SIP call from PortaSIP and sending it further via H323. The advantage of the MVTS or Cisco GW is that they communicate directly with PortaBilling100, which allows you to setup an advanced configuration. However, for a simple case like: PortaSIP —–> SIP/H323 convertor —–> Vendor using H323 other solutions should also work fine. Cisco has recently released an IOS version which allows SIP-H323 and H323-SIP conversion to be performed. See details at: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/
