PortaUM usage

PortaUM plays multilingual IVR (interactive voice responses) or voice prompts and completely removes the need in expensive Cisco media boxes. The IVR capability makes PortaUM an indispensable component for calling cards offerings (voice prompts), hosted IPPBX or IP Centrex services (auto attendant), and for many residential and retail VoIP applications (voice mail).

PortaUM is an integral part of PortaSwitch, a feature-rich telecommunication services and subscriber management platform built around a comprehensive converged VoIP billing and class 4-5 SIP softswitch.

Auto Attendant

PortaUM Auto Attendant is a Voice Response Unit which answers a company’s phone and performs the duties of an operator/receptionist: transferring calls to extensions within the company phone system, screening calls, and offering the caller directory assistance to the proper extension.

A typical auto attendant will answer the phone with a prerecorded greeting message like: “Hello, thank you for calling PortaOne. If you know your party’s extension, dial it now. For sales, press 1. For technical support, press 2 … or wait for transfer to an operator”.

PortaUM Auto Attendant supports an advanced menu management system to enable an unlimited, multi-tree interactive voice response system for all subscribers. PortaUM Auto Attendant is fully programmable and supports a large variety of system action types, allowing highly flexible selection handling. The voice menu files are fully customizable, and may be stored locally on the server.

An intuitive, feature-rich GUI allows users to create their own system in a matter of minutes, without the need for any programming.

PortaUM owners can fully utilize the conferencing bridge capabilities of the product to offer several end users to communicate through the phone at the same time. PortaUM features a web based conference control interface and the data management facilities to manage the joining and leaving of participants.

PortaUM creates an excellent way for ITSPs to stand out and improve the bottom line with a new service offering. From your customers prospective, it allows them to enjoy teleconferencing, inviting up to 40 callers in one virtual conference room to discuss common business project, conduct a seminar or training, and just chat between friends and relatives.

Conference services provided with PortaUM are especially important for your enterprise level clients that need help with multiple locations, dispersed customers or large sales forces to work together more efficiently.

How it works

  • As PortaUM owners, service providers can easily and instantly provide a totally automated environment and always available tool for its customers to create virtual meeting rooms.
  • Each user allowed to access the conference bridge is provided with a self-care interface for scheduling conferences and managing various parameters, such as access codes.
  • Customer can access the teleconference service with a dial-in number and an optional password to disseminate among the group of callers. Such a password to access the service can be either permanent, with a limited usage (number of calls, time period, etc.), or created only for a single teleconference session.
  • After successfully dialing a valid access code, the user hears the name of the conference assigned by the conference room administrator. The user then records his name and enters the conference.
  • The end users can schedule conferences at certain times, or stay in “always on” mode. They can also have multiple access numbers (for example, US toll-free and overseas).
  • The service provider can use different models to charge clients for the service: fixed monthly fee, per session, time based (per minute, per hour, etc.), or alternatively, use the service as a definite differentiation of its service offering.
  • PortaUM is fully integrated with PortaBilling. This means that service providers can use the PortaBilling web interface to enable this service and specify rates for customers using it.
