PortaSwitch Procinctus Architecture

Procinctus

PortaSwitch Procinctus architectural design includes three main components that are tuned up to provide the highest level of performance and reliability:

  1. PortaBilling in a special clustered configuration (with 8 servers instead of 4), optimized for the distributed simultaneous multiprocessing:
    • 3 servers to form a RADIUS Billing Cluster (fully copied from the high end architecture of PortaBilling Oracularius): no service outage in case one of the servers fails
    • 3 MySQL database servers:
      • Master DB
      • Standby DB for operational redundancy
      • Replica DB for data redundancy
    • 2 web servers in a cluster to provide the service provisioning interface for administration as well as customer self-care pages
  2. The Switching Cluster consists of 2 PortaSIP servers. Each server in this cluster can be operated simultaneously; and the clients' SIP phones may automatically switch to another available PortaSIP server in case of a service outage on one of the nodes.
  3. The Media Cluster consists of 2 servers:
    • PortaUM, a unified messaging platform and a media server to provide your customers with IVR (voice prompts), voicemail, auto-attendant, teleconferencing, and fax-to-email services
    • Secondary PortaUM for redundancy or load balancing

The configuration server is a single point for efficient management and seamless update process of the whole PortaSwitch Procinctus set up. It is also used as a logging storage to remove the analytical task loads from the servers directly involved in the operational processes.

PortaSwitch Procinctus Performance

PortaSwitch Procinctus comes with unlimited license and since there are no artificial limitations on the software side the only thing that limits its performance is the calculating power of the servers it is installed on. Of course, the actual performance will depend on the system’s configuration, traffic patterns, and the types of services provided. From our experience the following numbers may be expected, on average:

Performance IndicatorsMaximal Values
Call attempts per second100
Busy hour call attempts (BHCA)360,000
Concurrent calls15,000
Concurrent Internet access sessions45,000
Individual customers175,000
Monthly traffic in minutes 40,000,000

If your business requires even higher capacity and unlimited scalability you may consider Oracle RAC based systems.
